Let in Through Soft Iron/ Winter Sun

250cm x 185cm

List of Materials:

Lidl receipt, fast food receipt (Euston to Glasgow). Glint of a dram (local distillery). Blessing of the Plough (St Vigins Kirk). Stone imprint of a King, dead priest, Battle of Cullodden, fainted bodies. (The Lore of Scotland Kingshill, S. and Westwood, J. [2012]). Stones and shells and sea glass (Arbroath seafront). Mountains, bells and horses (tourist leaflets), Pictish stones from matte paper maps. Pleasureland prize tickets. Stagecoach single. Watercolour.

Superglue that makes heat transfer paper dark blue and shiny like metal. Dog crying at the foot of a cradle (spell for menstruation). Best before Dec 14th (eggs). Fishing net (orange string).

Rusted nails from the studio windowsills where artists place rocks, pebbles and crab feet in neat little lines and I’m sure it is a kind of magic I cannot name. Rusted nails tied with the red and white construction tape I found damp and cold by the harbour but which belongs around an olive tree in summer. Cloth from Molly because I lost mine, dyed pink with synthetic pigment. Painted candle, eyeshadow shimmer. Flowers and wooden carvings, old symbols. Christian, Maiden-Mother-Crone and Welcome to Angus all interlocking forever.

Asking for too much at the end of the world, wood taken from Ross’ tool shed. Screws and rivets from the big B+Q down the road, carried through the kissing gate and into the forest. Over the bridge where the dead dog is buried and where cable ties bind flowers with the wooden structure. Held past trees where people have carved into the damp bark grown over with moss (seasalt air).

Ironwork c.1290, Westminster Abbey. Stone blocks. Light let through the page. Click and wander down every tangent, unproductive and addictive. A well of knowledge neurotically repeating, like the salmon swimming through channels we cannot understand individually (fiberoptic undercurrents). Explore with heavy eyelids and stooped shoulders. Tap click, tap.

Fresh air and communal fire, carbon dioxide without the intangible ending. Soup and apples and baked bread. PVA glue and Lilly’s chisel. Tap click, tap. £850, moss and drill bit. Sandstone building and wooden floor. Waking up too late, hot water bottles and projector glow. Metal Brackets (10mm). Staples from the gun. Cut rubbers, t-shirt and brush. Charcoal on paper.
